Thinking Of Giving Up Your Statutorily Guaranteed Personnel Protections?

Check out the differences before you decide.

Compensation:

bulletKCTCS Employees – have no statutorily guaranteed compensation or benefit rates.
bullet18A & 151B Employees – are guaranteed, by law (House Bill -1), to receive at a minimum equal to the salary increase given to state employees.

Just Cause:

bulletKCTCS Employees – have NO statutory protections against unjust discipline or termination.
bullet18A & 151B Employees – are statutorily guaranteed protection against discipline or termination without cause.

Status/Tenure:

bulletKCTCS Employees have no statutory guarantee that they will be able to earn continuing status or tenure rights.  Employees covered by the KCTCS personnel system are hired under limited contract and are “at will” employees.
bullet18A & 151B Employees have earned tenure or continuing status rights.

Permanent Rights/Benefits:

bulletKCTCS Employees have NO permanent rights or benefits of any kind.  The Board of Regents can amend, alter or withdraw any rights or benefit they give to KCTCS employees at any time and without any employee input.
bullet18A & 151B Employees are guaranteed specific rights under the law.  These rights can ONLY be amended, altered or withdrawn by the state legislature.  Employees have ample input in any proposed change of their statutory rights or benefits through the legislative process.

TRUST:

bulletKCTCS Employees must TRUST the Board of Regents to address their needs and protect their interests.  TFSA/AFT-Kentucky believes that KCTCS employees deserve the same statutorily guaranteed rights as 18A and 151B employees have, we are working to win them these rights.
bullet18A & 151B Employees work with independent employee advocacy organizations like TFSA/AFT and their legislators to address their needs and to solve their problems.
