The People First Pledge

I believe that government has a responsibility to provide quality public service that places the needs and interests of the people of the commonwealth above all others and above politics. Therefore, I hereby pledge:

·        to ensure the affordability of post-secondary education for all Kentuckians, and

·        to support equality under the law for all Kentuckians, and

·        to defend and further the progress made under Kentucky’s education reform, and

·        to protect and fund programs that provide vital services to Kentucky’s working poor, less fortunate and needy, and

·        to protect the interests of Kentucky’s retirees and seniors, and

·        to reduce the number of Kentuckians without health insurance, and

·        to reduce the cost of health insurance for individuals, families and small businesses in Kentucky, and

·        to make prescription drugs more affordable for all Kentuckians, and

·        to maintain and strengthen Kentucky’s environmental protections, and

·        to oppose any effort to weaken or diminish laws that protect Kentuckians on the job, and

·        to support revenue modernization that is equitable to all Kentuckians, and

·        to protect programs that benefit Kentuckians with disabilities, and

·        to support programs and services that protect Kentucky’s abused and neglected children, and

·        to support adequate funding for police, fire and other emergency services, and

·        to support and protect programs that benefit Kentucky’s veterans.
