YOUR RIGHTS AS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE KCTCS
In 1997 during the Special Legislative Session on Post-Secondary Education, AFT successfully amended HB-1 to insure that any employee transferred into the new KCTCS on July 1, 1998 retained ALL rights and benefits that they had earned under their previous personnel systems.
AFT won guarantees of these rights as part of HB-1:
All employees transferred into the KCTCS would keep their personnel system and all rights and benefits previously guaranteed.
All employees transferred into the KCTCS would remain in their current retirement system with no loss in contribution.
All employees transferred into the KCTCS would keep all earned annual, sick and compensatory time.
All employees who had earned "status" or "tenure" would retain this status in the new system.
All employees would have an independent third party personnel dispute system available to help them solve work related problems.
All employees would continue to have the right to join AFT affiliates and receive AFT protections and benefits.
All employees of the KCTCS have the ability to take up to six hours of FREE credit hours at any state university or college in Kentucky.
