The Kentucky Association of State Employees (KASE/AFT) and the Technical Faculty and Staff Alliance (TFSA/AFT) successfully protected your retirement benefits during the 2007 Legislative session. At the end of the session, State Senator David Williams hijacked a bill that would have extended the high three retirement program and rewrote the language of this bill (HB 418cs) to gut retirement benefits for future employees. This bill would have also created a burden for current employees by increasing turnover and hurting the state's ability to recruit and retain good employees. Although this bill passed the State Senate, KASE & TFSA successfully blocked its passage in the House of Representatives. Governor Fletcher's Blue Ribbon Task force on Public Employee Pensions.
KASE/AFT president Lee A. Jackson currently sits on a pension system task force created by governor Fletcher. Jackson and KASE/AFT staff are monitoring the activities of this task force and fight to protect the interests of current and future state merit workers.
WARNING: The task force is examining ALL active and retired employee benefits including pensions and health care. This means that all of your benefits are on the table and are subject to discussion and could be reduced or eliminated. Your involvement in this process is critical!
